qathet Regional Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy
The qathet Regional Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy is regional in scope and has been completed through a partnership between qathet Regional District, City of Powell River, and Tla’amin Nation. A working group composed of two staff representatives from each of the partnering governments worked closely with the consultant team from Ebbwater Consulting Inc. to complete the project. The project builds on recent technical studies including the Overview Coastal Risk Assessment (Tetra Tech, 2018) which identified high-level flood risk for the qathet region and identified priority areas for coastal flood hazard mapping. Coastal flood mapping was subsequently completed for the mainland areas (Tetra Tech, 2021) and for the islands (Tetra Tech, 2022). Click on the links below to learn more:

The qathet Regional Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy charts a path for next steps in the region that could reduce the risks associated with coastal flooding and erosion and increase the resiliency of coastal communities. The project sets out a series of recommended actions that are wide-ranging and based on best practices and guiding principles. The project aims to align the three governments in their general adaptation approaches but notes that each government will likely apply different tools at different times.
