Crowther Road wildfire now held thanks to quick reporting and collaborative emergency response

Okeover, BC – The Crowther Road Wildfire (V50401) is now under control thanks to quick reporting from members of the public, and a rapid response from Northside Volunteer Fire Department, Tla’amin Nation Fire Department, Powell River Fire Rescue, and BC Wildfire Service crews.

 

The fire was reported in the early hours on May 22, 2026 by members of the public, whose prompt action helped initiate a coordinated emergency response. Emergency responders arrived quickly on scene to contain the fire, with Powell River Fire Rescue mobilizing our Structure Protection Unit trailer to assist. BC Hydro is also on site, monitoring infrastructure and assisting where necessary.

 

“This incident is a reminder that we have entered wildfire season in the qathet region, said Ryan Thoms, General Manager of Emergency Services. “While this fire remains under investigation, we are urging the public to exercise extreme caution with ignitable materials and maintain good wildfire prevention practices while recreating outdoors.” “We encourage members of the public to refer to our website and utilize our FireSmart tips and request a free FireSmart property assessment.”

 

This is an active fire, and the public is asked to avoid the Crowther Road area to ensure access for emergency and hydro vehicles. Tla’amin Nation is asking the public to enter the governance house parking lot with caution and leave lots of room for emergency vehicles who are coming and going as they provide mutual aid to the Northside Volunteer Fire Department in tackling the fire.
