qathet Regional District Installs EV Charging Station at Klah Ah Men Lund Gazebo Regional Park
qathet, B.C. – The qathet Regional District (qRD) is pleased to announce that the FLO Level 2 electric vehicle charging station at Klah Ah Men Lund Gazebo Regional Park is now fully operational, with charging available at a rate of $3.25 per hour.
FLO’s Level 2 chargers are compatible with major North American Electric Vehicle (EV) models (either directly or with a connector), and are accessible by downloading the FLO App or other ChargePoint roaming partner apps (EVgo, Ionity, Allego, Innogy, EVBox and others) or as a guest user by providing an email address and credit card number. The Flo EV charging station communicates wirelessly through a built-in cellular gateway, so no wired or fixed internet connection is required. Revenue generated from the use of the EV charging station will cover electricity costs and, depending on usage, may also cover the annual fees for the service. Expenses over and above revenue will be paid from the Regional Parks Services budget. Surplus revenue generated from the EV charging station will be returned to the Regional Parks Operating budget.
Regional Parks were selected for the EV charging stations due to the ability to share revenue and expenses for operation and maintenance of the stations within the Regional Parks budget. A solid cellular signal for communications is also required for station operation, which is available at Klah Ah Men Lund Gazebo, and the park is within walking distance of the village center. The new Northside Community Recreation Centre (NCRC) was initially considered for an EV charging station in Lund, but grant stipulations required the station to be fully operational by December 31, 2025 (NCRC completion is Spring 2026) and the NCRC is not within a Regional Park.
“We would like to thank Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada for their generous contribution to extend the EV charger network throughout the qathet Regional District’s rural areas,” said Clay Brander, qathet Regional District Board Chair. “These chargers, installed at no cost to the qRD, support longer visitor stays, improve regional connectivity, and contribute to meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.”
Through its Charged for Change program, presented in partnership with Earth Day Canada, Aviva Canada covered 100 percent of project costs, estimated at just under $80,000, for the purchase, supply and installation of two dual-plug Flo CoRe+ MAX Level 2 Charging Stations. The cost estimate for each charging station site includes a single-pedestal Level 2 charging station with dual-plugs, a new hydro-pole if required, new overhead lighting and all signage and protective infrastructure. The qRD was the first community in BC to receive this grant, and look forward to advancing EV supports in the province.
