qathet Regional Hospital District Board Elects Tla’amin Nation Director Brandon Louie as Chair, and Elects Director Elliott as Acting Chair
qathet, B.C. – At the inaugural meeting of the qRHD Board of Directors, held on January 27, 2026, the Hospital Board of Directors elected Tla’amin Nation Director Brandon Louie as Chair of the qathet Regional Hospital District (qRHD) Board of Directors for the upcoming 2026 year.
In line with provisions prescribed in the Hospital District Act, the Hospital District Board Chair and Acting Chair are elected from amongst the Board membership at the first meeting of the Board, each year. This distinction marks Director Louie’s first appointment as Regional Hospital Board Chair, and the first Tla’amin Nation Director to be elected to the role.
“I would like to express my thanks to the Board for electing me as Chair. I am committed to working together with the Board, our community partners, neighbours and Vancouver Coastal Health to advance the great work this Board has accomplished to date,” said Chair Louie. “Working together as a team, the Hospital District remains committed to our shared goal of improving healthcare facilities within our region.”
The Regional District Board also elected Municipal Director, Cindy Elliott, as Acting Chair for the 2026 calendar year.
About the qathet Regional Hospital District:
Regional Hospital Districts in British Columbia are established under the Hospital District Act to finance local contributions toward the construction, renovation, and equipping of major health care facilities. Their mandate includes supporting the establishment, acquisition, and maintenance of hospital facilities, but they do not finance or administer hospital operations.
The qathet Regional Hospital District (qRHD) encompasses the boundaries of the qathet Regional District and the Tla’amin Nation, with a Board composed of Regional District directors and representatives from the Tla’amin Nation. The qRHD works in partnership with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH) to support a healthy region through strategic investments in health care facilities and equipment.
