qathet Regional District partners with Kindred ReBuild to reduce useable materials going to landfill
qathet, BC – The qathet Regional District (qRD) has partnered with Kindred ReBuild to operate the Reuse Shed at the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC). This initiative will help advance the region’s goal of working towards zero waste by diverting usable goods from the waste stream.
The Reuse Shed will complement the Free Store at the RRC which currently provides diverted bikes, furniture, wood, and other usable items to the public at no cost during normal RRC business hours. The Reuse Shed will be open on specific dates and focus primarily on the reuse of construction and renovation items such as tools, building supplies, and household fixtures. The Reuse Shed will be staffed by knowledgeable Kindred ReBuild personnel who will stock the Reuse Shed and be available to answer questions about repairs, maintenance, and upcycling.
As with the Free Store, all items made available through the Reuse Shed will be diverted from the waste stream and made available to the public at no cost. The first pop-up event for the Reuse Shed is scheduled for January 17th, 2026, with more pop-up event dates, workshop sessions, and regular operating hours to be announced soon.
“The qathet Regional District looks forward to this collaboration with Kindred ReBuild as we continue to expand the Resource Recovery Centre’s services,” said qRD Regional Board Chair, Clay Brander. “The knowledge and experience they bring will encourage the reuse and repurposing of items that still have life in them. This will reduce what we must pay in shipping costs, the greenhouse gas emissions that transport creates, and reinforce our region’s commitment to becoming zero waste.”
