Crowther Road wildfire (V50401) response update – May 23, 2026, 6:00 p.m.
Okeover, BC (6:00 p.m.) – The qathet Regional District advises that the Crowther Road fire remains held, with no growth reported. Fire crews have successfully contained the fire on all sides, supported by sustained sprinkler operations.
The BC Wildfire Service continues to assist with air support, including bucketing operations in steep or inaccessible areas, and has deployed fallers to manage hazardous trees. Crews will return to the site tomorrow to continue suppression and containment efforts.
While smoke will remain visible, today’s operations were highly effective. Weather forecasts indicate the potential for rain beginning Sunday evening and continuing into Monday, which may support ongoing response efforts.
BC Hydro has de-energized power lines along Crowther Road due to the risk posed by falling trees. Updates will be provided as soon as power is safely restored.
This remains an active fire site. The public is asked to avoid the area to ensure clear access for emergency responders and hydro crews. Access along the main road is restricted to local traffic only, allowing residents to reach their properties.
“Seeing this fire brought under control is a direct result of steady, coordinated work and cooperation across agencies and our highly trained fire crews,” said Ryan Thoms, General Manager of Emergency Services. “This incident serves as an important reminder of the role we all play in reducing wildfire risk. FireSmart practices, like managing vegetation, and maintaining the priority zone system on our properties, can not only protect your property but your neighbours and community as well. We encourage residents to continue taking these steps to help protect their homes and support the safety of our region.”
