qRD Successfully Completes 2026 WorkSafeBC COR Maintenance Audit

qathet, B.C. – The qathet Regional District is pleased to announce it has successfully passed its 2026 WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition (COR) maintenance audit with a score of 91 per cent.

The COR program is a voluntary certification program designed to encourage employers to take a proactive approach to occupational health and safety. It recognizes organizations that go beyond legal requirements and industry best practices by implementing effective health and safety management systems.

The qathet Regional District first achieved COR certification in April 2024, after successfully passing its inaugural certification audit. Maintaining certification requires an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement through a three-year audit cycle, which includes two annual maintenance audits, followed by a full recertification audit every third year.

“We’re very proud of this result. A 91 per cent audit score reflects the strength of our safety program and the commitment of our staff and supervisors, who make safety a priority every day. We’re focused on using the audit findings to strengthen our program even further,” said Melanie Taylor, Manager of Occupational Health and Safety. “Highlights from this audit included a specific mention of the qRD’s strengths in Hazard Identification and Control, Workplace Inspections, and Organizational Commitment to Health and Safety.”

“Achieving COR certification demonstrates the qathet Regional District’s leadership, accountability, and commitment to continuous improvement in workplace safety,” said Clay Brander, Chair of the qathet Regional District Board of Directors. “This certification highlights our proactive approach to preventing workplace injuries, illnesses, and disease, while also reducing lost work time and lowering WorkSafeBC premiums.”
