City of Powell River Media Release: Powell River Airport (YPW) – Runway Rehabilitation Project

Powell River, BC – The City of Powell River re-opened the Powell River Airport (YPW) on Saturday afternoon, June 8, 2024 as scheduled. The City of Powell River is pleased to announce that the airport runway has been successfully rehabilitated by Upland Contracting Ltd. in accordance with Transport Canada and Navigation Canada’s requirements.

Further to the notice issued by the City on March 19th 2024, daytime flight schedules, including for Pacific Coastal Airlines for flight services between Vancouver and Powell River, have resumed today, June 10th 2024. Nighttime flight operations will resume following completion of the final components of the project later this summer.

 

“We want to thank City staff and our valued partners, in particular Tetra Tech Canada Inc., Uplands Contracting Ltd., Pacific Coastal Airlines and Harbour Air for working together throughout the airport closure period to ensure that our community’s needs were met,” said Mayor Woznow. “We greatly appreciate all of the support we have received from Vancouver Coastal Health and British Columbia Emergency Helicopter Services and other emergency service providers who have adapted their operations to allow for a seamless continuation of service.” The City is grateful to our community for making alternative travel arrangements and to Harbour Air for supporting our community by increasing their flight capacity during the closure period.
