qathet Regional District, BC — The qathet Regional Emergency Preparedness Program, in partnership with the City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation, will conduct a test of the Community Notification System on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance regional public safety and emergency readiness.
The Community Notification System is a vital communications tool designed to keep residents, visitors, and community members informed during large-scale emergencies and disasters, including wildfires, earthquakes, and severe weather events. Everyone is encouraged to register or update their registration to ensure they receive the test notification.
“Each time we test the system, we see an uptick in registrations, which is a positive sign that the system will reach more people when it matters most,” said Ryan Thoms, Manager of Emergency Services, qathet Regional District. “We encourage everyone to sign up and to talk to their family, friends, and neighbours about registering. Being connected and informed can make all the difference during an emergency.”
To register for the Community Notification System, visit qathet.ca/emergency-preparedness, click on “Enroll in the Community Notification System,” and complete the registration process. Our partners at the Powell River Public Library are here to assist those needing technical help with registration. Mark Merlino, Adult Services Coordinator, offers One-on-One Tech Help. Reach out to him at mmerlino@prpl.ca or 604.485.4796 to book an appointment.
