About
The Northside Community Recreation Centre is the primary facility in the Northside Recreation Service (a subset of Electoral Area A), a public facility for community, social and recreation purposes. It is a converted school building on Larson Road in the village of Lund. The building was constructed circa 1948. It was purchased by the qRD in 2004 to serve as the community centre. Over the years the building has been renovated several times.
The Lund Community Society is the leaseholder. It manages facility bookings and performs routine maintenance of the building and property. Currently the activities offered include fitness classes, meeting space, and a daycare centre.

The qRD has obtained Provincial funding to proceed with the design and construction of the upgraded facility. The Project will:
- Be procured under a design-build delivery model;
- Serve as an enhanced hub for community activities; and
- Support the qRD’s strategic priorities (available at https://www.qathet.ca/about/about-the-qrd/strategic-plan/).
The qRD has established the following goals for the Project. The Project, where possible within the budget, should:
• Provide a gathering space supporting community, culture and recreation for Northside residents and visitors;
• Incorporate green building elements into design;
• Minimize facility operating costs through design and selection of materials;
• Use local goods and services, as defined by qathet Regional District policies; and
• Ensure that the structure reflects Lund’s natural aesthetic.
The Design-Builder will be required to plan, design and implement the project by expanding the gathering space supporting community, culture and recreation for Northside residents and visitors, and in particular provide multipurpose space for the following:
• ½ court basketball gym;
• Hall for 200 people;
• Stage for theatrical/musical productions;
• Commercial-grade kitchen renovation;
• Wheelchair accessibility;
• New gender-neutral washrooms;
• Storage space related to expected usage; and
• A connecting welcoming foyer.
In the Regional Board meeting on August 7, 2024, the qRD Board rose and reported the following:
1. That the Board entered into a design build contract with Dawn Construction 2018 Ltd. for the Northside Community Recreation Centre design build project in Lund.
